Jim George's 356 Album

1/8/04: Jim writes:
"I am somewhere between serious and casual in the 356 area. My wife and I have owned four of these cars going all the way back to 1965, and so while I have some reasonable experience with them, I still have never pulled a motor or (god forbid) worked on a transmission. I might get to the motor pulling and reworking work stage if we ever add another garage here. But I have learned the basic things, and can bleed brakes, change oil and lube the chassis, do complete tune ups and set valves, etc. I have replaced the clutch cable and repacked the wheel bearings, and can do a good wash and wax routine too! I simply love to drive these little critters, and love to hear the motor behind me on the road.
I am sixty one years old, and retired from Motorola in mid 2002.
BTW, my car now has a torn rear plastic window. Excuse the rinky-dink tape on it. The whole top must be replaced, but you will see it in all its "au-natural" condition. The car is robin egg blue. It was purchased by the San Antonio Porsche dealer for his wife. He died, and she tried to operate the dealership, but was not successful. Her car was bought by a New York lawyer who had it restored. He told me the body was done in New York, and the engine in Dallas. It's not perfect and has some "bondo bubbles" starting to emerge on the bottom of the driver's side door. The lawyer ended up here in Austin, and sold the car. It probably would have been placed in the Rosanky Auto Museum, where this fellow has quite a few cars on exhibition, and so I am glad I got it."
